Liveband: Legal downloads of local live gigs
Prefer your music live - or recorded live?
A live recording is always a great way to relive the atmosphere of a live music performance, or even catch up on one you missed.
I came across the Liveband site from a previous post on Lifehacker and have since checked them out for myself.
Liveband allows fans to get the music directly from the artists - without all the middlemen and politics. It’s also a unique way of providing artists with an additional income stream for touring and recording.
How’s it work?
- All recordings are recorded live and then mixed and converted to Mp3 format.
- You can browse their catalogue, preview songs and select a gig to download.
- Each artist / recording download page lets you know the track listing and a review of the artist and gig.
- You pay the once-off license fee and then download your selected recording.
- Once purchased and downloaded, you are then legally allowed to copy the recording to no more than 3 CDs, 3 personal PCs or 3 personal audio devices.
The best bit for CD lovers is that included with the download fee, is the artwork for making your CD complete!

Conclusion: Legal downloads of live gigs from only $15 per recording. That has to be the best priced merchandise you can find? We just hope they get the support they need from the music industry and punters to continue building their catalogue of recordings.
