Apple news: curtains open on new iPod touch
“The funnest iPod ever…”
Funnest. It’s the new 2G iPod touch official catchphrase – as intro’ed (another Apple word) at the “Let’s Rock” event in San Francisco.
It is a catchy description, even if it’s not actually a “real” word. It conjures up a slightly less corporate image for the iPod touch. Cross-market appeal. Clever!
Well, what exactly makes it the “funnest iPod ever”? Let’s check it out…
Millions of songs, thousands of videos, hundreds of games”
What’s new?
- Previously only 8Gb, 16Gb … now also 32Gb
- Shiny stainless steel back
- Curvier back (similar to the iPhone)
- Side volume controls
- Better battery life
- Built in speaker for earphone free listening (quote “not for audiophiles”)
- Wireless support for the Nike + iPod (just add the shoe sensor)
- Genuis playlist feature (recommends songs from your library to create a playlist)
They’re touting stunningly thin – but I had the 1st version measures as slightly thinner?? Maybe I’m wrong (*gasp* imagine?).
Game on
Gaming is being highly emphasised for the iPod touch this time around. With now 3,000 games in the iTunes store for the touch and iPhone, that’s not a surprise.
There are many iPod touch specific games – like Spore Origins for eg, as reviewed below by CNET:
Software update
There’s also a software update for the iPod touch. The update is free for users who have already upgraded to the 2.0 version; or $9.95 for users still with version 1.x.
