2009 WAMi Awards
Western Australian Musicians celebrate
The 2009 WAMi Festival has been in full swing this week.
Overnight, the WAMi Awards ceremony uncovered a some strong preference for local boys Birds of Tokyo, who took our four awards. Well done lads!
The melodic hard-rock quartet earned the public vote for most popular act, most popular live act and most popular album as well as the industry-voted gong for best rock act.”
Favourite newcomers were Tame Impala, secured two awards (and were nominated for a massive 10). They opened for Living End last week in Brisbane. (Too bad organisers of the event poorly publicised a late venue change!)
More of my music favourites also received awards. Pendulum (best live electronic act) and Drapht (best urban/hip-hop), who also performed on the night.
