Music festival: Sounds of Spring 2009
Music and other Spring Sounds
Sounds of Spring launched it’s inaugural festival last year and had Brisbanites excited about having another local based music festival.
Though, for any who attended, and judging from other online reviews, the day’s organisation fell extremely short of expectations.
The heavy rain and band delays were fairly unavoidable. Mostly the issue seemed to be the last minute change to all ages, without over/under 18 armbands to easily identify punters, the consequent hold up at bar gates showing 18+ ID each time – or in fact the inability to even get into a licenced area without an hour’s delay.
Many unhappy festival goers!
“How will 2009 be different?”
Just recently I received the email-out for presale tickets for this year’s festival, in September 2009.
Wanting to support local music festivals, I contacted the organisers prior to any ticket purchase to establish what had and/or hadn’t been fixed from last year’s troubles; to see whether I’d spend my hard earned money on them again.
Their response:
Have spent 6 months making sure the event is a much better experiance for all concerned.
The event will remain 18+ and you will not be checked all day for ID. There will be 3 bars spread out around the site (two 30m wide and the other 15m wide). You will be able to drink everywhere.”
Sounds like a favourable reply, I’ve decided to give them a second chance. After all, if we don’t support start-ups like these, we may lose them.
The line-up
Over 50 bands & performers over three stages, with the likes of The Living End, Josh Pyke, The Beautiful Girls, Butterfingers, Downsyde, Urthboy, Children Collide, Giants of Science, Phrase and Pez – right at home perhaps singing “The Festival Song”
Plus heaps more… You can check out the full line-up so far online at Sounds of Spring.
So, if you’re keen to also show your support, you should really get in and grab Pre-Sale tickets, now available for $65 + booking fee instead of apparently $85+. I have no idea how long the presale tickets will last.
And let’s pray for sunshine this year!

ps I guess a bad day at a music festival is still better than a good day at work?
