iTunes Updated – iTunes 10 with Ping

“iTunes – #1 online media store in the world”
At the recent Apple special event, Steve Jobs launched iTunes 10, available immediately.
He also stated that iTunes was the No1 online media store in the world – and had joy providing some pretty big iTunes stats, like:
- 160 million accounts in 23 countries
- Over 11.7 billion songs have been downloaded
- Over 450 million tv episodes
- 100 million movies &
- 35 million books
New iTunes mixing in the social arena
Along with a new logo and simpler interface, iTunes 10 comes with social media intergration.
They’re calling it Ping…The social network for music, like Twitter and Facebook meets iTunes, built right into iTunes. (No mention of MySpace… who coincidentally are a social network for erm music…)
Ping
- How to discover new music, friends music, favourite artists, share your music
- Follow your favourite artists, follow friends, and be followed
- Post your thoughts and opinions, photos, videos, add comments
- Find concert listings of your favourite artists (or nearby) with ability to RSVP, comment etc
Available immediately for signup. Available in iTunes and on the iPhone and iPod touch.
Movie & TV Rentals
Also in iTunes 10, Apple has moved to rentals for HD TV episodes and series. Stating “no more storage problems”, but of course you don’t get to keep what you rent. Though, at $0.99 an episode, they are cheap! And movies in HD from $4.99.
