MJ’s glove goes under the hammer

Michael Jackson glove sold at auction

MJ bejwelled glove

Picture the late Michael Jackson and you also picture a white glove. It became like a trademark.

During his HIStory tour down under in 1996, a couple of lucky Melbournites caught an MJ bejwelled glove, which has caused quite a commotion at auction last week.  Although valued at $30,000, it passed under the hammer for a whopping $57,600. More on MJ’s glove goes under the hammer

2009 WAMi Awards

Western Australian Musicians celebrate

The 2009 WAMi Festival has been in full swing this week.

Overnight, the WAMi Awards ceremony uncovered a some strong preference for local boys Birds of Tokyo, who took our four awards. Well done lads!

The melodic hard-rock quartet earned the public vote for most popular act, most popular live act and most popular album as well as the industry-voted gong for best rock act.”

Favourite newcomers were Tame Impala, secured two awards (and were nominated for a massive 10). They opened for Living End last week in Brisbane. (Too bad organisers of the event poorly publicised a late venue change!)

More of my music favourites also received awards. Pendulum (best live electronic act) and Drapht (best urban/hip-hop), who also performed on the night.

MySpace Artist on Artist: Ringo Starr & Ben Harper

I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love the MySpace Artist on Artist interviews. They’re fun, honest and we get to see a sneak-peek further into the stars personalities.

The humbling Ben Harper does not disappoint with his interview with Ringo Starr, showing him utmost respect and adoration.

The Vines cancel all shows

The Vines have have cancelled all upcoming shows – the Homebake, Pyramid Rock and Big Day Out festivals, as well as their upcoming Japanese tour.

Craig Nicholls’ health has deteriorated and it has become necessary that he take time out to receive some urgent medical assistance.

Fellow band member, Hamish Rosser commented:

“On behalf of The Vines we would like to extend our sincerest apologies to those of you who have bought tickets to see us perform and will not get to do so” said Hamish. “We are all absolutely devastated that we’ve been forced to cancel all upcoming shows as there’s nothing we love more than playing on stage before an enthusiastic audience. We ask for your understanding in this situation.”

Understanding? Of course!!

It might be a shame for fans, but far more importantly, let’s hope Craig gets all the help he needs and gets his health back on track.

I’d have to say seeing The Vines MySpace Secret Show down in Melbourne in June was certainly one of this year’s surprising highlights.  Their shows are full of high energy and mayhem!

If you need a fix of the boys playing live, check out the recording of The Vines @ The Metro last year via Moshcam.
