How to Finance an Independent Record Label start-up

or, “How to spend your last $US9K financial aid cheque”

I love supporting independent bands and musicians. A fact some of you may (?) already know about me. Well how about this - an Independent Record label…

Undergrad Records is a web-reality show documenting the journey of Patrick Owen, a graduating college student that takes his last financial aid check to start an independent record label.

You can join Patrick on his journey - below is a link to the first chapter.

Episode 1: The introduction

Digg comments:
The show/blog/documentary of a college student that takes his last financial aid check and starts in independent record label. With the way the music industry is heading, is this a good idea? With him using his financial aid check, is it even legal?

Legal? Who’d know. We hope so for his sake.

Where to follow this journey for yourself: www.undergradrecords.tv

You will be shown how - with drive and determination, the gift of the gab and influential contacts - you can double your start-up money almost immediately.

Cya on Oprah Patrick!

Online Music: Great sites to visit for new music

Bring on the Tunes!

Listening to music is one of my favourite past-times. When it’s coupled with catching up with friends, it becomes no 1 on the list!

To those who know me, it would come as no surprise that I’m always looking for sites online to listen to or download music.

That is, when I’m not trawling myspace to check out artists - or dragging friends along to new bands.

So now time to share with you … I came across a great “Top 15″ music sites list on Musicouch.

The author gives a brief overview of each site - and the sites provide a varied range in music genres, new artists, ability to create playlists and share with music communities.

Good work Musicouch!

World Record: World’s Longest Pop Song

Get involved in the fun and silliness!

triple j’s “The Doctor” and j tv want to break the record for the world’s longest pop song.

Excerpt from website:

The world record for The Longest Pop Song has been held for more than a decade by Chris Butler’s 69 minute, 500+ verse epic The Devil Glitch, and it strikes us at triple j tv with The Doctor that the genre of Ridiculously Long Songs is badly in need of reinvigoration.

So this is our bid to shatter the standing record, but we need your help.

The Doctor has written the beginning of a pop song, “Life Goes On”. On the site is a step by step guide to show you how you can contribute your own verses and/or choruses.

More information

Every contribution will be accepted (as long as it’s not offensive).

Who knows… if you’re an up and coming musician, this just may get you ‘discovered’?! :)

Vodcast

And you can also subscribe to the j tv vodcast while you’re there.

Have fun!
