Uni students pulling all night essay marathons may need to share their Coke with their phone … That is, if they want to keep their mobile charged to browse the net for their much needed essay filler information.
“What?” you ask
A conceptual mobile phone has been developed, in partnership for Nokia, powered by Coca Cola or similar sugary soda drinks.
The Chinese inventor, Daizi Zheng, says:
“Through out my research, I found that phone battery as a power source, it is expensive, consuming valuable resources on manufacturing, presenting a disposal problem and harmful to the environment.
The concept is using bio battery to replace the traditional battery to create a pollution free environment.”
Using the eco-friendly bio battery, which generates electricity from the carbohydrates and utilizes enzymes, has the potential to operate three to four times longer than a conventional battery’s single charge AND could be fully biodegradable.
Remember, we’ve seen something a little similar, charging with an energy drink and onion, but this puts the theories to practical – and possible – use.
A battery powered by soft drink? Now that’s sweeeet…

Mini-USB now available with DLO PowerPack
The DLO PowerPack is the perfect travel or backup charger, dock & power cable supplies for your iPod, iPhone, MP3/MP4 and mobile phone.

Included in each DLO PowerPack is:
- DLO PowerBug (USB to AC power adaptor for wall charging)
- DLO Auto charger (USB to 12v car charger)
- DLO USB to iPod Dock cable (connect to your computer for USB to iPod charging, syncing)
Of course, for many that kit is all they need for their charging needs.
Bonus USB to mini-USB adapter
BUT to help out others making it the “one-charging kit-fits all”, we now stock USB to mini-USB adaptors (USB mini-B) and they are included in the DLO PowerPack, at no extra cost.

That means you can use the mini-USB adapter and your digital gadgets with any of the included DLO PowerPack cables, in just about any required situation. Or just directly with your compatible mini-USB MP3/MP4 player or mobile phone straight to your computer’s USB port (weight depending – use of a USB cable may be preferable).
Don’t get stuck anywhere without power again – especially on your next long road trip or at that boring sales conference

Any readers heading to Glastonbury Festival this year?
Well, then you’ll be one of the first to trial UK mobile phone service provider Orange’s new mobile phone recharge system.
Supposedly the idea is to capture the kinetic energy created by your dancing and use that to charge your mobile phone. Exact details are a little sketchy at this stage, but no doubt festival-goers will be up to the dance challenge during the festival.
It’s definitely not the first time Orange (as Glastonbury sponsors) have come up with an eco-friendly way to charge your mobile phone during the festival. Here’s the previous year’s efforts, as reported by Pocket-lint:
The partnership began in 2000 with Orange’s Mobile Charging Truck in 2000, which could simultaneously charge 50 phones – last year 65,000 festival goers took advantage of Orange’s juice up opportunities.
And following on from that, the Orange Mobile Wind Charger – the UK’s first wind-powered phone charger designed as a prototype to attach to the top of your tent.
Very eco-responsible thinking.
Let’s just hope you’re a strong dancer, ey?! Or else you might need to visit the happy herbs stand for some extra energy?

A green alternative??
Just for a little bit of fun, let us share an experiment we stumbled across…
Experiment: Charging your iPod with an alternate power source
Use: I don’t know.. during a blackout?
Items required:
- iPod
- Screwdriver
- White Onion
- Gatorade or Powerade
Hey? What?
Yes – you read right .. using an onion and whatever brand energy drink you wish.
Cool – where can I check this out myself?
As any tricky experiment should, this one comes complete with it’s own set of video instructions: Alternative to Power Charger
Of course, it comes with a HUGE disclaimer:
“Do not try it on your own iPod – borrow a friends”
Only joking!
Common sense tells you not to try it yourself, unless you want to void your iPod warranty? We strongly advise against trying this experiment.
