Mobile phones: Are less mobiles being stolen?

“Thieves – stealing a mobile phone is useless!”

Blocks on lost and stolen mobile phones from the mobile telecommunications industry’s handset blocking program fell nearly 26% in 2007.

Stats released by the AMTA indicate that requested IMEI blocks on stolen and lost phones dropped from a daily average of 487 in 2004, down to only 258 in 2007.

Coupled with owners being more vigilant, they hope it proves a trend that thieves realise stolen phones are inoperable once the owner has IMEI blocked them with their service provider.
