[mawr-fing] – a special effect that changes (or morphs) one image or item into another through a seamless transition
How cool would a mobile device be that was:
flexible (change the shape of, fold, pull apart, stretch and even wear);
partially transparent;
solar-powered;
self-cleaning; and
environment-sensing
“Sounds unbelievable!”
For those Generation X’ers who still feel a little ripped off by the many advanced technology promises of the “Beyond 2000″ tv show which just never eventuated, it might also be hard to get excited, but take a look at the Nokia’s Morph concept device.
Watch the video
See what technology they say is possible within seven years:
The ANZ has launched mobile banking and the NAB follows suit next month, but how safe would you feel being able to transfer money between accounts with just the use of your mobile phone?
I don’t know… Losing your phone might give more meaning to the “pay anyone” banking feature? And how about those late night accidental banking transactions?
I’m sure a little down the track, I’ll trust the banks, embrace change and love the convenience.
Until then, I think I’ll just continue with my fee-free internet banking, thanks.
Rumour has it Motorola may considering dropping mobile phones from their portfolio, following massive losses on sales of their mobile devices last quarter.
Reported 31 January:
Motorola, Inc today announced it is exploring the structural and strategic realignment of its businesses to better equip its Mobile Devices business to recapture global market leadership and to enhance shareholder value. The company’s alternatives may include the separation of Mobile Devices from its other businesses in order to permit each business to grow and better serve its customers.
If you’re one of the millions worldwide with a 3G phone – good news then (maybe?)!
YouTube for Mobile is now being offered in 17 countries (and 10 languages), though it’s not exactly clear when it will cover all the 3G handsets with streaming capability. YouTube are apparently working closely with the likes of Nokia, Motorola, LG and more. (And the iPhone comes with inbuilt YouTube).
“What can it do?”
YouTube Mobile is extending it’s catalogue to include nearly all available videos, not just the handpicked selection previously offered. The user interface is better, with access to your account, ratings, comments etc.
Oh – and you’ll also be able to upload videos directly from your mobile.
Warning: Perhaps you’ll need to keep a close eye on your mobile/video wielding mate. You know, the one who always produces embarrassing photos of you when you’re out late.
The m.youtube.com site comes with it’s own warning message:
“YouTube Mobile is a data intensive application.
We highly recommend that you upgrade to an unlimited data plan with your mobile service provider to avoid additional charges.”
Hmm – a skeptic might think that they were all in cahoots together??
