How Schools can get involved
MobileMuster is also calling on participating schools to hand in their old mobile phones, batteries and accessories for recycling before June 5, as part of the ‘Old Phones, New Fence Posts’ Schools Challenge.
MobileMuster and Australian Composite Technology will donate 1 x plasmar post for every 5kg sent in by schools to Victorian communities affected by bushfires.

Well done Aussies…!
Remember last month when we told you about the MobileMuster and Landcare “Old Phones, More Trees” campaign, where a native tree was to be planted for every mobile phone handed in for recycling before World Environment Day?!
Well on Saturday 31 May, according to the AMTA website, Australia set a new world record:
Australians handed in a record 2,590 mobile phones for recycling through MobileMuster, creating a World Record for the largest number of mobile phones handed in for recycling in one country in one hour.
The Guinness World Record attempt took place simultaneously on Saturday 31 May across five capital cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
What now?
If you missed the campaign deadline (shame on you?!), it just means a tree will not be planted in your honour. You can of course still find out how to recycle your mobile phone at the MobileMuster website.

Before you ask – Yes, they are related
‘Sme again. Banging on, yet again, about recycling your old mobile phones.
In case you’ve missed any of my previous recycling tips, MobileMuster is the mobile phone recycling program run by the AMTA (Australian Mobile Telecommunications Authority).

The good people at MobileMuster have gotten together with the good people at Landcare and have officially launched the “Old Phones, More Trees” campaign, which will plant a native tree for every mobile phone handed in for recycling.
Australians can join a campaign to plant thousands of native trees for free by recycling their old mobile phones between now and World Environment Day on 5 June.
Be part of the solution, not the problem
How? Pretty easy really!
Recycle all your old mobile phones, charges and batteries; which unclutters your drawers; reduces landfill – and helps plant some trees.
Just remember to do so before World Environment Day on 5 June.
“I’m on board, how can I recycle?”
- You can drop your mobile phones into just about any mobile phone retailer – wherever you see MobileMuster drop off bins.
- If that’s not convenient, postage satchels have now also been placed in all Post Offices for you to send you mobile phone back for recycling – free of charge.
