World Record: World’s Longest Pop Song

Get involved in the fun and silliness!

triple j’s “The Doctor” and j tv want to break the record for the world’s longest pop song.

Excerpt from website:

The world record for The Longest Pop Song has been held for more than a decade by Chris Butler’s 69 minute, 500+ verse epic The Devil Glitch, and it strikes us at triple j tv with The Doctor that the genre of Ridiculously Long Songs is badly in need of reinvigoration.

So this is our bid to shatter the standing record, but we need your help.

The Doctor has written the beginning of a pop song, “Life Goes On”. On the site is a step by step guide to show you how you can contribute your own verses and/or choruses.

Every contribution will be accepted (as long as it’s not offensive).

Who knows… if you’re an up and coming musician, this just may get you ‘discovered’?! :)

Big Day Out - Sydney & Melbourne

The 2008 round-up continued

More action, updates and gossip to read if you weren’t a lucky BDO punter. Remember, the Big Day Out official site has press releases - of the shows as they travel around: BDO Press Releases.

Bjork Bjork fans would have been shattered by her having to pull out of Sydney BDO due to swollen vocal chords. She was back on the bill for Melbourne - vocal chords all rested, costumes all flowy, stage presence amazing!

Weatherwise, showers had plagued the Gold Coast event, but weather for Sydney and Melbourne was hot and dry. Melbourne BDO saw the move to Flemington Racecourse, which proved to be nice and roomy, however dust was a bit of a problem.

Rage Against The MachineIn Sydney, Police and rescue workers praised the behaviour of the BDO crowds. However, in Melbourne, crowds caused pandemonium when they surged forward and started climbing structures to see Rage Against the Machine. One guy, whilst unconscious, had to be crowd-surfed to an ambulance.

I cannot understand the stupidity of dangerous unruly crowds. Of course, some moshing, pushing, shoving is unavoidable (no problems there), but when it escalates to surging and crushing fans, they are ultimately risking their safety ~ but more importantly, that of many others by their actions. The tragedy of Sydney’s 2001 Big Day Out should not just be a distant memory!

Ok, I’m off my soap-box now!

For more highlights and updates, also check out In the Mix, Triple J or Central Station.

Also, check out Josh Pyke’s own BDO diaries as he travels around with the tour - Sydney, Melbourne.

Big Day Out 2008 - Auckland & Gold Coast

The 2008 round-up

If you were unlucky in getting Big Day Out tickets, you can check out all the action, updates and gossip online.

The Big Day Out official site has press releases - of the shows as they travel around: BDO Press Releases

Triple J have the timetables to all BDO events available for download to your mobile (from their website). As well, there is a blog by Dools & Linda and lots of photos. Many of the performances have been recorded so listen out for when your favourite groups and singers will be re-played! Tip: They’re still giving tickets away to some of the remaining shows

Josh Pyke is keeping a BDO diary of the Australian leg of the tour - read Josh’s updates.
Check out In the Mix’s photos, news and timetable and artist updates: BDO photos live on ITM.

According to Under the Radar, Auckland rocked out too!

In other Gold Coast BDO news, Daniel Johns got tongues wagging on the Gold Coast, one punter was threatened with a taser, Bjork wowed the crowds, as did Rage against the Machine.

I’m sure there’s far more news to come in all the other Australian cities. Bring it on….
